Insurance and Medical Services

--Group Insurance for Overseas Students (Mainland Chinese Students) (Mandatory Participation)-- 

Insured Subjects 

Mainland Chinese students, as well as foreign, overseas Chinese, and Hong Kong and Macau students who do not qualify for National Health Insurance. 

Insurance Cost

NT$ 3000 / 6 months (Underwritten by Cathay Insurance) 

Claims Information 

  • Seek medical treatment at hospitals or clinics participating in National Health Insurance. 
  • Obtain a diagnosis certificate and keep all receipts.  
  • Prepare the necessary documents for claims and submit them to the International and Cross-Strait Exchange Office. 

Required Documents for Claims 

  • Claim application form 
  • Original receipts 
  • Original diagnosis certificate 
  • Photocopy of passbook cover 
  • Photocopy of residence permit 
  • Stamp from International and Cross-Strait Exchange Office (submitted by the International Office) 

After the above documents are complete, the insurance company's claims department will verify the documents and approve the claim within approximately 4 weeks, and the claim amount will be remitted to the beneficiary's designated account. 

--National Health Insurance (Mandatory Participation)-- 

Insured Subjects 

  • Students must have resided in Taiwan continuously for 6 months to qualify for National Health Insurance. 
  • The 6-month calculation is based on continuous residence or a single exit not exceeding 30 days. The actual residence period, after deducting the exit days, should total six months. If the student exits for more than 30 days or exits more than once, a new 6-month calculation is required.

Insurance Cost 

  • NT$ 826 / month 
  • Each semester, the International and Cross-Strait Exchange Office consolidates the list of students required to purchase National Health Insurance and the amount. The department office or tutor collects the fees and submits them to the cashier unit for payment and receipt collection, and the completed list is submitted to the International and Cross-Strait Exchange Office for consolidation. 

Lost Card Processing 

If you lose your health insurance card, please prepare a 2-inch photo (front view with white background), a copy of both sides of the residence permit, and pay NT$200 for card replacement. After preparing these materials, please apply at the post office.

Relevant Regulations 

According to Article 91 of the National Health Insurance Act: Persons who do not participate in the insurance according to this Act shall be fined NT$3,000 to NT$15,000 and must apply for insurance retroactively from the date they meet the insurance conditions. No insurance benefits will be provided until the fine and insurance premiums are paid.
