"Meiho University of Science and Technology" (hereinafter referred to as the University) was formerly known as "Meiho Nursing Junior College," founded in 1966. It was the first private specialized nursing school in Taiwan and was upgraded and restructured in 2010. The University aims to cultivate students who are holistic, professional, international, and specialized in "healthcare." In response to the global trend of industrial development, the University actively creates a multilingual environment and strengthens international exchanges, recruiting international students is set as a key institutional objective. Since the 96th academic year, the University has offered overseas programs in Vietnam and has deeply rooted in Southeast Asia for over a decade, with nearly 700 alumni.
The University aims to provide a high-quality Mandarin learning environment for foreigners in the Pingtung area. On January 21, 2020, it was officially approved by the Ministry of Education to establish the "Mandarin Language Center" (hereinafter referred to as the Center). The Center is equipped with four dedicated teaching spaces, including large classrooms and computer classrooms, all equipped with multimedia equipment such as multi-touch screens and desktop computers. The faculty at the Center hold master's degrees related to Mandarin or have obtained certification from the Ministry of Education for teaching Mandarin as a foreign language, with rich teaching experience. They can customize courses based on students' needs, cultivating foreign students' Mandarin communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and guiding them to obtain the national Mandarin proficiency certificate (TOCFL CERTIFICATE). The Center is equipped with professional Mandarin teaching materials from the "Contemporary Chinese Course" series, TOCFL tutoring materials, and other commercial Mandarin textbooks, along with various board game teaching aids to enrich the curriculum. For student counseling, the Center has an after-class tutoring mechanism to ensure continuous Mandarin learning. The Center plans to offer graded Mandarin courses, business Mandarin courses, and TOCFL tutoring courses, along with cultural courses and various local cultural experience activities to combine Mandarin learning, aiming to enhance learning interest and effectiveness. In recent years, the Center has also actively recruited students for international special programs such as industry-academia cooperative overseas student programs (3+4 years/bachelor), New Southbound Policy industry-academia cooperation international programs (four-year/bachelor), and international industrial talent education special programs (new special programs).
